About Al Brown

Al Brown, PTA, certified IMT therapist, and certified practitioner of Matrix Energetics, is the owner of Holistic Healing Centers of Michigan and has been running his own physical therapy practice since 1999. Being legally blind, Al uses his heightened sense of touch to locate the source of physical and physiological dysfunction in his patients. In 1995 he received an associate’s degree in applied sciences and physical therapy assistant studies from Macomb Community College. Additionally, he has received extensive training in different therapy modalities throughout the country.

Among all PTs and PTAs in the U.S., he is one of the few who is certified under Integrated Manual Therapy (IMT) to treat individuals with autism or vision disorders. His specialties include craniosacral therapy, myofascial release, muscle-energy techniques, and strain-counterstrain techniques, which he employs in treating those with health conditions such as fibromyalgia, infectious diseases, or GI dysfunction, among many others. He has come a long way from the days when he was running a small, self-pay operation out of his home, and he continues to find much joy in helping to restore health and vitality to his patients while promoting a lighthearted, relaxing atmosphere through humor and music.

What makes us different?

Unique Approach

Similar to our having a unique approach, our clinic, compared to most physical therapy clinics in the U.S., is unlike any other: colorful fish and live plants.

Lighthearted Environment

Al designed the clinic in this way in order to promote a relaxed, light-hearted environment in which HHCM patients could feel at ease while they receive treatment.

Relax & Restore with Music

We encourage our patients to bring a CD of their own for us all to enjoy as we always have music playing softly overhead.

About Andrea Plewka

Andrea Plewka, Physical Therapist with Feldenkrais® practioner training, musician, artist, loving mother “Mother Earth Movement, Music, Native Art & Drums” Healthcare, Physical Therapy, Holistic Health. “Our bodies are like symphonies – the world, our audience.” If we fine tune & play with them … we’ll be living more harmoniously, connecting ourselves to the world. The role I play in my professional organization is helping people become aware of our healthy connectedness to ourselves & this planet Earth … respecting, honoring, cherishing, take care of her as well as ourselves and relatives – each other.

My physical therapy skills have been utilized in the Michigan Southeast metro area as a holistic neurosensory movement re-educator and also as a contracting physical therapist. Having progressed in additional certified movement integration training after graduating from Wayne State University’s Physical Therapy program and working in hospitals primarily, I branched out into the private practice setting with a team of dedicated holistic rehab professionals in 1989 for the start of a career using more specialized treatment approaches. This type of patrient care has been my passion for over 30 years.

Many clients have benefitted from the specialized “hands on” & verbal guidance approaches that teach people to learn basics of comfortable or easier mobility & modify if necessary their traditional exercises. Many of my physical therapy sessions integrate these learning methods with PR modalities and manual therapies including: soft tissue mobilization, myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, joint mobilization, lymphatic or therapeutic massage related to specialized diagnoses. My assistance in program development with this innovative manually based rehabilitation center, “Holistic Healing Centers of Michigan”, started in 2008 until 2011.

I was invited back in 2017 to assist in more program development including relocating the office to Madison Heights from Warren, MI and the start of another center offering additional self-pay services or insurance based physical therapy, “Holistic Therapy Institute or HTI” Physical Therapy. Since 2017, my skills have been utilized managing or overseeing physical therapy clients’ PT programs of traditional PT methods – often integrating specialized manual therapies, craniosacral and Sensori-motor movement retraining. The prior experiences I had as a physical therapist helped numerous businesses continue to operate at a decent speed and afford therapists the time off needed for vacations, continuing education, maternity leave or personal healing. It’s an often underrated specialty to assist companies from losing continuity of care with clients when therapists need time off or companies require another PT for whatever reason. Diverse experiences practicing in the profession have included 15+ years of out patient & private practice settings & the rest in hospitals, rehab centers, skilled nursing facilities, home health & some school special needs programs.

Whole Body Approach

Most essential to our clinic is the unique whole-body approach we utilize, allowing us to best determine the underlying source(s) of dysfunction and, furthermore, alleviate pain and discomfort. When you arrive for your first 60-minute session, our licensed physical therapist will perform a full evaluation of your musculoskeletal and postural system, taking the time to listen to you and understand your health concerns and goals. With you and the therapist working together as a team, we believe that the best possible improvements in your health can be attained. We will also communicate closely with your referring health care provider, should you have one, throughout the duration of your treatment.

At Holistic Healing Centers of Michigan, we are committed to improving our patients’ health, quality of life, and well-being. With our extensively trained and trusted staff, we make it our mission to provide each and every one of our patients with comprehensive, compassionate care, enabling them to enjoy life comfortably and pain-free.
